I sit alone in my room, Feeling the cold air sneak its way through my windows. Gripping my pillow tightly, Struggling to close my eyes and let my mind wonder. The wind whistles throughout the night, Slamming the trees into one another. The sound of the furnace kicking on, Like a monstrous hum shattering the silence. I shutter uncontrollably, Fearing what could be lurking beyond the next noise. The silence of my room brought all of these things to life, And oh how I pray now for the silence to return.
